As the Lead Baker at Festival Foods, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the Bakery Department Manager in leading our bakery team of bakers and fryers. You'll produce exceptional bakery items while fostering a positive and efficient work environment. Your expertise in baking and pastry will ensure our department is stocked with fresh, high-quality products and deliver outstanding food service.

What You'll Do:

As a Lead Baker at Festival Foods, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead by Example:Reinforce Festival culture, guest service, and performance expectations to all bakers and fryers, setting a high standard for the team in our bakery.

  • Training & Development:Provide consistent, on-going training and department expertise to bakery associates, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their roles effectively in both baking and food service.

  • Staff Management:Partner with the Bakery Manager to ensure proper staffing levels and efficient labor utilization, including preparing weekly work schedules for bakers and fryers.

  • Quality & Standards:Ensure all bakery department standards are met, from product quality to service expectations, with a focus on pastry and bakery excellence.

  • Operational Excellence:Observe sales floor and back stock conditions, taking corrective actions as needed. Communicate and cooperate with the department manager and other bakery associates to maintain and exceed standards.

  • Guest Service:Assist guests with inquiries and special requests, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills, and ensuring their bakery and pastry needs are met.

  • Product Handling:Package and price items from the service case, maintain adequate supply levels by replenishing ingredients and other necessary items, and assist with mixing, frying, baking, and decorating bakery products.

  • Cleanliness & Safety:Contribute to overall cleanliness by organizing and cleaning work areas, shelving, and the sales floor. Maintain food safety logs and adhere to quality standards, including meeting quantity expectations by 10 am and 5 pm.

  • Deliver Feedback:Document any violations of company policies by bakers and fryers, advising the department manager on appropriate corrective actions.

  • Honor Commitments:Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences

  • Support the Team: Other duties as assigned.

    What We're Looking For:

    To succeeed in the Lead Baker role, you'll need:

  • Customer Focus:Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel.

  • Experience:Previous experience as a baker or in a similar role within the bakery, restaurant, culinary, or food service industry required.

  • Skills:Strong math skills for calculating proportions and percentages, effective communication skills, and the ability to work among a team.

  • Safety Knowledge:Complete understanding of safety requirements and company policies, with the ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and address potential hazards.

  • Decision-Making:Knowledge of the retail food business, perishable department operations, and merchandising skills, with the ability to make timely and effective decisions.

    Work Schedule:

    The Lead Baker is a full-time, hourly position. The work schedule will generally include mornings, afternoons, and weekends, with the flexibility to work evenings, overnight shifts, and holidays as needed.
