Job Description
The Biologics Discovery Sciences group at AbbVie is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated scientist to join a dynamic team supporting Discovery Biotherapeutics. This position will impact projects through engineering, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience with biologics and multispecifics production platforms, analytical characterization (e.g., SEC, MS), and a proven track record implementing multispecific engineering and production strategies to advance early- and late-stage discovery programs. The applicant should be an enthusiastic, creative scientist who will make tangible contributions to the continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for design, engineering and production of multispecific biologics to support all Abbvie therapeutic areas
Evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art technology to improve therapeutic production platforms, and demonstrate creative “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve difficult problems
Serve as a Multispecifics Engineering representative for cross-functional teams and provide guidance as an expert
Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative process research ideas
Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
Provide project update, analysis and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management
Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents
Qualifications
Qualifications:
PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 0-4 (PhD), 8-10+ (MS), or 10-12+ (BS) years of experience
Extensive experience in multispecific biologics engineering
Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, and multi-specifics design, expression and purification
Ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative purification and screening technologies for multispecifics
Sound scientific understanding of current state of protein expression/separation/analytical technologies
Experience with in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g. SEC, MS, DSF)
Strong molecular biology skills (e.g. molecular cloning)
Experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata)
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
Adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines
Recognized in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferred
Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong can-do attitude

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
