U.S. Air Force - Agency Wide LEARNING ENGINEER SPECIALIST in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

Summary This is a Non-Tenure Track position. Performs duties as Learning Engineer in the Department of Executive Director , Air Force Institute of Technology. Responsibilities Advises faculty on appropriate modalities and tools for course delivery. Facilitates faculty learning communities, promotes technology-enhanced learning, and encourages the sharing of experiences and insights among faculty members. Collaborates with faculty to determine needs of students. Creates and disseminates information to AFIT schools about the availability of educational hardware and software at AFIT. Develops procedures to coordinate best practices across schools for the benefit of all instructors and students. Works with AFIT schools and directorates to enhance relevance and effectiveness of services. Convenes a working group to manage educational methods with representation from relevant AFIT organizations to maintain awareness of evolving institutional needs. Establishes meeting schedule and ensures minutes are recorded. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with schools, directorates, and other personnel with educational responsibilities. Represents the CIE at AFIT meetings or external stakeholder and partner events as needed. Facilitates institutional adoption of new educational technologies. Advocates for required resources in coordination with the AFIT schools to enable timely, cost-effective adoption of new educational technologies with demonstrated potential for improving AFIT educational outcomes. Prepares budget requests with appropriate technical details, cost estimates, and explanations of impact. Coordinates with AFIT's Communications and Information Directorate to meet requirements for software operation on Air Force networks and provides timely responses to requests for clarification from higher headquarters. Develops and presents workshops on education technology topics, pedagogy, and the scholarship of teaching and learning for faculty and staff. Instructs faculty and staff on learning theories and instructional design practices to optimize learning in various class formats (in-person, distance learning, hybrid, etc.). Evaluates effectiveness of educational methods and identifies associated resources at AFIT. Uses human-centered engineering design methodologies and data to inform selection decisions between learning technologies. Applies research-based learning principles to align technologies with learning needs. Creates strategies for effectively enhancing learning in distance learning and blended courses. Develops resources utilizing learning theories to support faculty in the use of educational technology for online and face-to-face learning environments. Recommends policy and procedure changes for technologies. Develops and manages a committee of educational technology personnel from all schools to inform, collaborate, and communicate across schools. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational techniques to provide feedback to faculty and staff. Uses quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and learning analytics. Prepares reports for AFIT leadership summarizing findings and recommending actions to improve relevant areas of AFIT's learning environment. Contributes to academic publications and/or presents at academic conferences on topics related to educational technology, and the scholarship of teaching and learning Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Conditions of Employment Continued Term appointment may be extended to the maximum period allowed by law without further competition. NOTE: Current federal civilian employees may apply for this position and if selected, a break in service of at least 3 days may be required prior to appointment to this position. Incumbent may be required to travel by commercial or military conveyance (or other means of travel) to perform temporary duty. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional duties supporting the academic and administrative aspects of a military school can be assigned by school and/or university leaders. Required Qualifications An earned Master's degree is required at time of employment. The ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters is required. A minimum of three years employment at an accredited college or university implementing educational technologies or innovative teaching approaches. Desired Qualification An earned Master's degree in learning engineering, educational technology, or related fields. Doctoral degree preferred.- Demonstrated experience using multiple educational technology tools to support teaching and learning in virtual and in-person environments. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering workshops for faculty or staff on learning engineering or educational technology topics. Strong networking skills and track record of engagement with various stakeholders internal and external to an institution to build partnerships and collaborative initiatives. Demonstrated experience inspiring diverse campus constituents to adopt relevant best practices. Demonstrated experience applying educational technologies, instructional design, and assessment strategies to improve student learning outcomes. Demonstrated experience authoring reports communicating best practices in areas of expertise, assessments of student learning outcomes, or research results. Proficiency in preparing purchase requests or similar documents specifying the technical requirements and cost estimates for acquiring educational technology tools. Active involvement in relevant professional societies. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
