Job Summary

  • The Chaplain is accountable for giving the necessary authority for providing spiritual and emotional guidance, support and comfort to patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with the pastoral care department’s policies and procedures, through the ministries of pastoral care and liturgy appropriate to his/her position and to his/her functions as a member of the healthcare team.

  • Performs exceptional care and service to patients, residents, guests and fellow employees at all times.

  • The chaplain will also provide spiritual and emotional guidance and support to residents, families and staff of Avera Sister James Care Center on an as needed basis.

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in such a way as to demonstrate and support the hospital's Catholic heritage and values of hospitality, compassion and stewardship.

  • Provides care/service in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies standards and Catholic Ethical and Religious Directives.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • One year experience of pastoral care ministry in an acute care hospital preferred.

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Christian witness inherent in the philosophy of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • NACC/COC/ACPE – Certified Chaplain or

  • Must be willing to work toward CPE certification

Work Schedule

  • Day/Evening Shifts, 8:00am-3:00pm, every 4 th weekend; 60 hours every 2 weeks

  • Holidays as scheduled

  • Call-time once a week and one weekend a month

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

  • $21.50 - $32.50 per hour
