Shur-co Senior Accountant in Yankton, South Dakota

Shur-Cos rapidly growing PE-backed business has the need for aSenior Accountantto support the companys Accounting Department. This position will have a focus on Payroll Accounting and Treasury/Cash Accounting in addition to general accounting duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Perform and support financial accounting and reporting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, month end close activities, and financial reporting and analysis.
  • Audit and regulatory support for various Financial and Regulatory areas
  • Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and financial integrity.
  • Identify and implement process streamlining and control improvements in the finance function
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives including acquisitions, integrations, and implementations
  • Review payroll calculations, deductions, and adjustments to ensure compliance with company policies, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with HR, finance, and other departments to gather and verify payroll-related information, such as new hires, terminations, benefits, and timekeeping data.
  • Reconcile payroll reports, filings, and other documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Stay updated on payroll regulations, tax laws, and trends to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Support the cash management area of the company, including cash forecasting and treasury services
  • Performing other accounting duties and supporting junior staff and Controller as required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA/CMA a plus
  • 4-7 years of relevant Accounting experience, including 2 years of Payroll accounting experience and Treasury/banking services experience
  • Manufacturing company experience preferred
  • Highly skilled with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with a major ERP system and financial reporting software
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organi ation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages.
  • Proficient in computing (Microsoft Excel)

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
