Nevada Copper Underground Trainer in Yerington, Nevada
Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.
Purpose of the Position:
The Underground Trainer will develop and implement training programs for competency and site compliance to ensure that employees have the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitude to perform their assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.
Accountability:
The Underground Trainer will develop, implement, and administer all programs as it pertains to underground training, reporting directly to the Underground Operations Superintendent.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for competency
Maintain site compliance to ensure that employees have the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitude to perform their assigned tasks in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner
Create and maintain accurate training records in accordance with MSHA regulations
Conduct task observations in collaboration with the operating departments
Facilitate task training in classroom and field environment settings
Ability to adjust training techniques based on learning style types to optimize trainee's learning experience and information retention
Excellent and demonstrated personal commitment to health, safety, and training
Develop teaching outlines and determine instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, and workshops
Assist in the standardization and review of divisional procedures, guidelines, and observation templates
Conduct evaluations of fellow trainers to support growth and development
Audit and review training courses, materials, and programs for continuous improvement
Assist in the implementation of a Competency-Based Training (CBT) program that ensures information is delivered in a manner that employees will retain
Assist in the tracking of task training, task observations and assessments
Maintain document control and management
Maintain training records with associated supporting documentation in compliance with NCI Learning Management System (LMS)
Facilitate new miner, experienced miner, hazard, site, and task specific training courses
Participate with alignment of site initiative or mandates
Perform other duties assigned
Health and Safety:
Expected to always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in a production environment (hard hat, safety belt, self-rescue respiratory device, steel toed boots/metatarsal protection, reflective visible clothing) or as required for a specific job duty. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
Ensure that all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed. Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices. Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required.
Knowledge/Education:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Five (5) years of underground heavy equipment operation in mining industry or similar heavy industry experience required
Proven experience in working with peer groups and focus teams required
Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required
Excellent leadership, influencing skills and promoting safety by leading by example required
Proven safe work record required
Proven attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
Have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills
Skills/Abilities:
The Underground Trainer must demonstrate the following skills:
Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures for the organization
Ability to create training courses based on site needs
Advanced computer skills applying Microsoft Office and ERP Systems
Able to work independently, as well as an effective member of the management team
Strong verbal, written, analytical and communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels within the company
Capable and willing to train other operators to support competency training

Physical Demands:
The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:
Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in weight
Work in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, including underground
Exposure to hot and cold work environments and forms of inclement weather
Maintain focus under stressful circumstances, pressure, or deadlines
Wear Personal Protective Clothing including hard hat, hearing protection, reflective vest, eye protection, etc.
Work and walk in areas that are dark, wet, or have uneven surfaces
Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:
The incumbent work schedule is typically a 40 hour/week schedule. During the initial ramp up, additional work time will be required to meet the goals and objectives of the business. Personal Protective Equipment required for the fieldwork portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
