Summary of Position Participates as a team member on two federally funded research projects; an Air Force-NCDMM cutting-edge hot wire laser hybrid additive manufacturing direct energy deposition (DED) project in collaboration with ORNL, Georgia Tech, and UTEP and Defense Logics Agency (DLA) NCDMM Foundry 4.0 . This project focuses on investigating, developing, and producing 3D printed tooling parts for the automotive and aerospace field using a hot laser wire direct energy deposition system to support the development of additively manufactured composite tooling, stamping dies, and repair of metallic structures. The second project focuses on providing training and support for small to medium size enterprises (SMEs), specifically foundries, to implement industry 4.0 technologies through training, webinars and demonstrations. Supports the ETC's automated foundry, post processing lab and development of training for outreach to the SMEs. Machines and characterizes manufactured parts, documents work/results and provides input for reports and presentations. Interacts closely with students to support the deliverables established in the statement of work of assigned projects. Position Information Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supports other projects at the ETC such as lab layout, designing end of arm tooling (EOAT), fixtures, and molds,. Provides support on robot programming, vision system integration, sample preparation and characterization (wire EDM, CT scanner etc.) . Supports and oversees the planning and optimization of manufacturing processes. Provides training as needed in areas such as e.g. computer aided design, manufacturing processes, materials and foundry operations. Works on in-depth/multifaceted projects comprising disciplines in mechanical, chemical, materials and additive manufacturing, and casting. Performs tooling design and assists the printing process of parts and structures. Contributes to lab space designs and assists with robotic programming. Supports casting efforts. Performs and oversees the characterization of manufactured parts. Assists in project management, including report writing, and presentations in program review meetings and/or conferences. Supports laboratory needs in terms of supplies, equipment, and students. Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires. Performs other related duties as assigned. Equipment Operated: Computer, DED Printer, robots, casting, CNC systems, wire EDM, CT scanner, and all other standard office equipment. Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Supervision Exercised: Supervisor may be exercised over student employees. Reports to: Director, Excellence Training Center Qualifications and Competencies:  Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: DED additive manufacturing, materials, CNC machining (additive/subtracting and hybrid), tooling design and mechanical-thermal testing. Skill in: design, programming of robots, casting, CNC machining, mechanical-thermal characterization, 3D printing of metals, MasterCAM and HyperMILL CAM software coding; computer aided design (CAD); interpersonal communication, documentation strategies; oral and written English, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, creating working assemblies, and experienced in hands-on assembly of parts and tooling Ability to: learn and expl
